**NEW** UFFA ON FILM

A TREAT FOR UFFA ENTHUSIASTS

We recently found a piece of old film of Uffa commentating on, and sailing in, the Round The Island Race with Max Aitken on Lumberjack circa 1955.  It has been converted and an extract can be viewed on the link below.

DEMISE OF THE FLYING FIFTY

We have just heard that after being abandoned afloat for a long time the Flying Fifty, Uffa's largest cruiser, has been removed from the Marco River in Florida is being broken up.   Apparently the vessel was sold to a local resident who left the vessel anchored and unattended. The vessel was anchored near very shallow water and somehow wound up on the shoal and keeled over and sank in 10 feet of water.

Nancy Rinker told us - 'Supposedly, the new owner lived aboard her for almost a year in the Marco River, directly in front of the Snook Inn.  I guess one day he just left...and there she sat until she sank.  Even though she was a sad relic sitting there...most of her was visible even at high tide!  We have a sailboat ourselves...although nothing like the Flying Fifty!  We would have to sail directly by her to get into the Gulf.  Not a sail went by without saying how sad it was that she ended up that way.  I'll kind of miss her being there... I always knew I was getting close to home'.

Capt Jack Moran who ran the salvage operation contacted and said - 'She was a beautiful boat and a real challenge to salvage.  It is disheartening to see the pictures of how beautiful she was'.

FLYING 25

Paul Woodman and John Bransgrove from Melbourne have made a beautiful job as you can see in the pictures below of making a modern version of the Flying 25.  Paul and John have called her Flying Fox and she performed well in the 2009 Skandia Geelong Week finishing fifth under the IRC handicap system.  See link for results Audi Series Div 3 - Race Results.  Here are some pictures from the regatta:
